How Kinolime Voting Works

Introduction

Your voice matters in more ways than you can imagine. At Kinolime, our innovative voting system not only rewards your participation but also gives you the power to greenlight the next great film. To help you better understand how this system works, we’ve put together a concise overview of how to participate, what goes into your scores, and how to maximize them. Additionally, we'll share some valuable tips along the way.

Participating in the Voting System

The first step to participating in the Kinolime voting system is to choose a screenplay from the competition. Once you’ve made your selection, you can review it and cast your vote.

Three Ways to Review a Screenplay

  1. Reading a Screenplay

    • Open your chosen screenplay and begin reading.

    • After finishing, you can cast your vote. Reading votes carry the highest value.

  2. Listening to a Screenplay

    • If you’re on the go or prefer listening, Kinolime offers a built-in script reader.

    • You can even speed up the audio for quicker reviews.

    • Once listening is complete, you can cast your vote. Listening votes have a medium value.

  3. Watching a Video Podcast

    • Starting at round two, we offer a video podcast for the top 30 winners from round one.

    • They include video recordings of table reads from selected scenes, to give you a feel for the screenplay.

    • These podcasts, hosted by our Head of Development John Schramm and actor, comedian, and writer Bret Raybould, are each approximately 15 minutes long.

    • After watching, you can cast your vote.

    • Remember, a podcast vote is of lower value compared to reading and listening votes.

Factors Influencing Your Score

Your vote is more than just a simple click. Several factors impact the final score a screenplay receives from your vote.

  1. Content Type Votes

    • The way you review a screenplay—whether by reading, listening, or watching a podcast—affects the value of your vote.

    • Reading carries the highest value, listening holds medium value, and watching a podcast holds the lowest value.

    • Regardless of the content type you choose, you earn tokens that you can redeem later.

  2. Your Actual Votes

    • Completing any of the three types of content unlocks a voting panel.

    • This panel is part of a larger questionnaire where you share your detailed thoughts on the screenplay.

    • Your individual feedback is crucial and directly influences the screenplay’s score.

  3. Voting Frequency

    • Frequent reviewers who read screenplays consistently have a greater impact.

    • The more scripts you read, the higher the value of your votes.

Maximizing Your Vote

To help your favorite screenplay climb to the top of the competition, follow these guidelines:

  • Read screenplays: Reading provides the best assessment of quality and earns the highest points.

  • Be consistent: The more screenplays you read, the greater your cumulative impact. This can significantly boost the total score you can give, known as Lori scores.

  • Understand score calculations: The Lori scores determine the top 30 or even the top 10 screenplays in our competition.

Important Considerations

  • Finality of Votes: Once submitted, votes cannot be changed. However, reading a script will override any previous votes from listening to the same script.

  • Reader Overrides: Essentially, a vote from reading will replace a vote from listening.
